The Mustr crew were out and about yesterday with volunteers from Hilton, and local organisations and businesses including Warner Bros. and Intu Watford for a day full of positive community impact.

With 12 community improvement initiatives taking place across the town, volunteers were hard at work cleaning up riverbanks, clearing public footpaths, litter-picking and even helping paint and renovate the Meriden Centre playground.

After finishing their tasks for the morning, over 100 volunteers made their way to Cassiobury Park to support the family fun afternoon. Homes-Start Watford, supporting the project invited local young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to take part in the fun in the sun.

Watford Borough Council, the Pump House Theatre and Watford FC Community Sports and Education Trust all pitched in with activities for children ranging from inflatable football and face-painting to theatre workshops and educational nature walks.

The event took place during Hilton’s Global Week of Service, which mobilises tens of thousands of people from all over the world to support their local communities through volunteer projects.

Simon Vincent the Executive VP and President, EMEA at Hilton said: “As the home of our Europe, Middle East & Africa headquarters, Watford is an important town for us. We are committed to creating a lasting impact on every community we touch, and working alongside other businesses based in the area makes this an even more powerful collaboration. We’re looking forward to building on the success of this year’s event in future.”
Chris Luff, the newly appointed CEO of the Watford and West Herts Chamber of Commerce and Founder of Chamber of Conscience, said: “Whether we’ve lived in Watford all our lives, moved here recently, or commute here for work, Watford takes centre stage in many of our lives. We’re delighted to be working with Hilton and other businesses to make this day memorable for all the right reasons. We’re excited to see how this partnership progresses in the coming years, and would urge any other businesses who want to get involved next year to get in touch.”

Other local activities from Hilton’s Global Week of Service included:

  • Work experience: Hilton invited a select few local people currently not in work to take part in a week’s work experience to build their skills and confidence for the workplace.
  • Share our Suits: Hilton Team Members donated suits and clothing suitable to wear for job interviews. This clothing will be given to Suited and Booted, a partner organisation which empowers people to be at their best when attending interviews.
  • Skills-Sharing Mini-Conference: Departments across Hilton and other corporations in Watford offered charities and community groups the opportunity to learn more about critical business areas. The conference covered everything from budget forecasting to learning and development, GDPR, marketing and communications.
